In Idaho, there is a growing community of individuals who have dedicated themselves to saving lives and protecting people and property. According to the Idaho Department of Labor, in 2011 Idaho was served by 1,675 firefighters and 570 paramedics and EMTs. That total number is projected to grow significantly in years to come, rising 18.4 percent to 2,659 by 2018.
Public emergency services are a vital part of our community, and CWI helps enhance these professions in Idaho by providing training in a variety of fields. Whether you are interested in a career in fire protection or emergency medical services, you can get started at CWI with programs offered in EMT, paramedic, and wildland firefighting.

Emergency Services Courses and Class Descriptions
Advanced EMT (120 Hours, 3 Months + Clinical Hours In Hospital/Pre-hospital Emergency Setting)
If you have completed basic EMT training and want to take your skills further, this class will offer you a deeper understanding of several EMT related topics. Through this course you will gain more in-depth knowledge on anatomy and physiology, patient-assessment, acid-base balance, shock and shock management, IV therapy, fluid resuscitation, and airway management, including tracheal intubation. This class will also help prepare you to take the National Registered EMT practical and written exams. Pre-Requisite: EMT training.
Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (140 Hours, 4 Months + Clinical Hours In Hospital/Pre-hospital Emergency Setting)
Are you searching for a fulfilling new career with every day challenges and excitement? Take the first step to making a difference in your community by completing CWI’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course. This class will teach you basic emergency pre-hospital care, including patient assessment, airway management, hemorrhage control, management of fractures, care of special injuries, emergency childbirth, environmental emergencies, transportation of the sick and injured, and radio communications. In addition to classroom instruction, you will have opportunities for clinical observation and hands-on training in one of many acute-care facilities or emergency response units. Upon completion of this class you will be prepared to take the National Registered EMT practical and written exams. Healthcare Provider CPR and various immunizations are prerequisites for this course.
CPR: American Heart Association (AHA) Approved (6-8 Hours, 1 Session)
This American Heart Association (AHA) approved CPR training can prepare you to help save a life in an emergency situation. Our healthcare provider CPR course can be applied to your work with adults, children, and infants, or to prepare you or your staff for handling life-threatening emergencies. The course includes adult/child/infant CPR, the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and adult/child/infant choking. Our training programs meet the guidelines established by the AHA, including the latest Emergency Cardiovascular Care guidelines.
First Aid: American Heart Association (AHA) Approved (8 Hours, 1 Session)
If you are seeking first aid training approved by the American Heart Association (AHA), look no further than this course to provide you with the most complete and adaptable training in the industry. Our AHA Heartsaver First Aid course, produced by the trusted leader in workplace first aid, will cover topics including first-aid basics for medical emergencies, CPR, and injury-based and environmental emergencies, including how to use the automated external defibrillator (AED). Our program will give you the most current training available, meeting the updated guidelines established by the AHA.
Paramedic (7 Months + 452 Clinical Hours + Field Internship)
Paramedics are the most highly trained medical first responders. Join this group of life-saving professionals. This course will provide you with top-level training and knowledge about everything needed to quickly assess and skillfully meet patient needs in an ever-changing emergency scene. Through this class you will learn how to provide pre-hospital care to emergency patients, while preparing you for employment with fire departments, private ambulance services, police departments, or hospitals.
Wildland Fire Academy (1 Week)
The Wildland Fire Academy is offered each spring. The academy is offered to federal and state wildland fire fighting agencies, contractors, and individuals. Classes offered to firefighters include how to be effective and how to survive in the hazardous wildland fire environment. Classes for veteran firefighters and managers include management techniques and protocol for ground support, air support, incident response and command, and forensics.
